
18 Gbps HDMI / USB-C over HDBaseT 2.0 Extender (100 m) with USB 2.0, 60 W Charging and Bi-directional IR / RS-232
The Tech Aagam TA-HBT2-100-CHU2P is a feature-rich HDBaseT 2.0 extender kit (transmitter + receiver) that carries HDMI or USB-C video, embedded multi-channel audio, USB 2.0, bi-directional IR and RS-232 over a single Cat 6a/7 cable. Built around an HDBaseT 2.0 VS2010 chipset, it supports HDMI 2.0b at 18 Gbps, HDCP 2.3, full HDR pass-through, and reaches up to 100 m at 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 in HDBT Standard Mode or 150 m at 1080p 8-bit in HDBT Long-Reach Mode.
The TA-HBT2-100-CHU2P was designed to consolidate three jobs that ProAV integrators often handle with separate boxes: a 4K HDBaseT extender, a USB-C presenter dock, and a USB 2.0 KVM extender. The transmitter accepts both HDMI 2.0b and USB-C video inputs, with auto-switching driven by HDMI +5 V detection or signal detection — or manual switching from the front-panel button or API. The USB-C port carries DP-Alt video, USB 2.0 data and 60 W power delivery, so a USB-C laptop docks with a single cable.
USB 2.0 is tunnelled across the HDBaseT link in both directions. The TX provides 1× USB Host (Type B) and 3× USB-A device ports (5 V / 500 mA each) for keyboards, mice, USB cameras, USB flash drives or printers; the RX provides 2× USB-A device ports at 1000 mA each. VBUS on the device-side ports is automatically gated by USB-host presence, so peripherals are powered only when needed. RS-232 is carried as transparent pass-through plus a "guest-mode" API command channel — control systems can either tunnel serial commands end-to-end or address the extender directly.
Two HDBaseT modes are selectable via a front-panel switch. HDBT Standard Mode (factory default) carries 4K60 / 4K30 / 1080p plus full USB 2.0 up to 100 m on Cat 6a/7. HDBT Long-Reach Mode trades video bandwidth for distance, carrying 1080p 8-bit up to 150 m on the same cable; in this mode the USB channel is restricted to HID devices (mice and keyboards) and serial baud rates may be capped. The receiver also offers 4K-to-1080p downscaling on its HDMI output (with no frame-rate conversion), so a single source can be routed to a mixed display estate without an external scaler.
EDID handling is comprehensive: a four-position DIP switch on the TX chooses between copy display, 4K30 4:4:4, 1080p60 4:4:4 and 1200p60 4:4:4. The RS-232 / Micro-USB API extends this to nine additional EDID profiles — including 3840×2160@60 Deep Color HDR LPCM 6CH and copy-from-RX — plus two user-defined slots that can be loaded with a 256-byte EDID payload. Bi-directional 24 V Power-over-Cable with a switch on each end means a single bundled adapter powers both units, with the option to disable PoC when pairing with PoC-capable HDBT projectors.
A VS2010 HDBaseT 2.0 chipset carries an 18 Gbps HDMI 2.0b signal end-to-end. Standard Mode (factory default) reaches 100 m at 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 with full USB 2.0; Long-Reach Mode reaches 150 m at 1080p 8-bit (USB HID only). The mode switch is exposed on the TX front panel.
Both inputs are exposed on the TX. The USB-C port carries DP-Alt video, USB 2.0 data, and up to 60 W of USB power delivery for charging a connected laptop. Switching between sources is automatic (HDMI 5 V or signal-detect), or manual via the SELECT button or API.
One USB Host (Type B) and three USB-A device ports on the TX provide a docking-station experience for the source PC; two USB-A device ports on the RX (1000 mA each) sit at the display end for a camera, USB flash drive, or wireless dongle. VBUS on the device ports is gated by host presence, so peripherals power up only when the host is connected.
HDR, HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision LLM and HLG are passed unchanged. Color space supports RGB, YCbCr 4:4:4, 4:2:2 and 4:2:0; color depth is 8 / 10 / 12-bit, with HDCP 2.3 protection across the link.
The RX HDMI output can downscale a 4K source to 1080p without frame-rate conversion. AUTO mode follows the connected display's capability; ON forces 4K → 1080p; OFF bypasses video. Useful when a single source drives a mixed estate of 4K and 1080p displays.
Both ends expose an L/R OUT 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack with PCM 2.0 analog audio. Useful for feeding a presenter-side amplifier from the TX and a separate room amplifier or powered speakers from the RX simultaneously.
Wideband IR (20–60 kHz, 12 Vp-p) is tunnelled in both directions on 3.5 mm jacks. RS-232 is carried as transparent pass-through over 3-pin 3.81 mm Phoenix connectors. The same RS-232 channel can address the extender directly with API "guest-mode" commands when needed.
Four EDID DIP-switch presets — copy display (factory default), 4K30 4:4:4, 1080p60 4:4:4 and 1200p60 4:4:4 — plus nine additional EDID profiles via API (including 3840×2160@60 Deep Color HDR LPCM 6CH and copy-from-RX) and two user-defined slots that accept a 256-byte EDID payload.
The bundled 24 V / 3.75 A desktop adapter (CE / FCC / UL certified) can power either end; the other unit is powered via PoC over the Cat cable. A PoC switch on each end allows the function to be disabled — required when the TX is connected to an HDBT projector that supplies its own PoC.
Connect RS-232 (115200 baud · 8N1) or the Micro-USB SERVICE port to a control system or PC, and address the extender directly. The command set covers status (r status), switching (s tx input, s tx autoswitch), EDID management, audio mute, downscale, front-button lock, reset and reboot — ideal for Crestron / Extron / AMX / Q-SYS integration.
