150 m 18 Gbps HDMI over HDBaseT Extender with Bi-directional IR, RS-232, CEC and PoC
The Tech Aagam TA-HDMIEXT-4K-150 is a long-haul HDBaseT extender kit (transmitter + receiver) that carries an uncompressed 18 Gbps HDMI 2.0 signal — including embedded multi-channel audio, bi-directional IR, RS-232 and CEC — over a single Cat 5e/6 cable, at distances of up to 120 m at 4K@60 Hz 4:4:4 and 150 m at 1080p. Built for ProAV integrators specifying a single-cable backbone in larger rooms and buildings, with full HDCP 2.2 / 1.4 / DVI 1.0 compatibility and HDR pass-through.
The TA-HDMIEXT-4K-150 is engineered for installations where the source rack and the display are separated by structured-cabling distances — typically 30 to 150 metres of Cat 5e or Cat 6. The transmitter accepts a single HDMI 2.0 input from any HDCP 2.2-compliant source — UHD media servers, signage players, set-top boxes, PCs, or HDMI matrix switchers — and serialises an 18 Gbps HDBaseT link onto a single shielded Cat cable. The receiver reconstructs the native HDMI 2.0 stream at the display end, preserving HDR metadata (HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and HLG) and HDCP 2.2 encryption end to end.
Two features distinguish the -150 from a typical HDBaseT extender. First, the transmitter carries a local HDMI loop output, so a confidence monitor or rack-side display can be driven from the same source without an inline splitter. Second, the receiver provides a de-embedded analog stereo output on a 3.5 mm jack — PCM 2.0 audio is extracted from the HDMI stream and exposed directly to powered speakers, mixers or distributed-audio amplifiers, eliminating a separate audio-extraction product. CEC pass-through is also tunnelled across the link, alongside bi-directional IR and RS-232, so consumer-electronics control and AV automation systems continue to work transparently across the extension.
Reach is targeted at real-world cable plant: 120 m (394 ft) at 4K UHD @ 60 Hz 4:4:4 and 150 m (492 ft) at 1080p over a single Cat 5e/6 cable. Two-way Power-over-Cable means a single 24 V locking adapter at either the TX or the RX powers both units — useful where the display location is power-constrained. The compact metal chassis (140 × 65 × 18 mm) ships with mounting ears for under-table, behind-display, lectern, podium or rack-shelf installation, and a Mini-USB SERVICE port on each unit allows in-field firmware updates.
End-to-end HDMI 2.0 link supporting 4K UHD at 60 Hz with 4:4:4 chroma sampling and 8-bit colour depth, plus 4K@30Hz at 4:4:4 and 4K@60Hz at 4:2:2 / 4:2:0 with 8 / 10 / 12-bit colour. Full backwards compatibility with 1080p, 1080i, 720p and all HDMI 3D TV formats, together with PC resolutions up to 1920×1200.
Static and dynamic HDR formats are passed unchanged: HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision and HLG. EDID and HDR metadata flow transparently between source and display, ensuring the correct HDR profile is negotiated automatically.
Up to 120 m (394 ft) at 4K UHD and 150 m (492 ft) at 1080p over a single Cat 5e/6 cable. No upgrade to Cat 6a/7 is required, which simplifies retrofits into existing structured-cabling plant.
A second HDMI Type A connector on the TX provides a buffered local copy of the source signal — ideal for a presenter-side confidence monitor, a rack-side test display, or feeding a second downstream device without an external splitter.
A 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack on the RX exposes PCM 2.0 audio extracted from the HDMI stream, ready to feed powered speakers, a mixer, or a distributed-audio amplifier — without a separate audio de-embedder in the rack.
The HDBaseT link tunnels three control channels simultaneously. Bi-directional IR (3.5 mm jacks, 20–60 kHz IR receiver), transparent RS-232 over a 3-pin Phoenix connector for control-system integration (Crestron, Extron, AMX, Q-SYS), and CEC for consumer-electronics command propagation between the source and the display.
The bundled 24 V / 1 A locking adapter can be connected at either the TX or the RX side; the other unit is powered through the Cat cable. Total system power is 9.36 W — practical even for fan-less, behind-display installations.
A red Power LED, a Connection Signal indicator (illuminating / flashing / dark for good / poor / no link), and a Data Signal indicator (HDCP-protected / unprotected / no signal) provide immediate diagnostics on each unit. A Mini-USB SERVICE port on both TX and RX enables firmware updates without removing the device from service.
Human-Body-Model ESD protection of ±8 kV air-gap and ±4 kV contact discharge, paired with a universal-input AC adapter (100–240 V 50/60 Hz), supports reliable operation across global installations.
